2006 Schools Admissions policy |
Most Relevant Text:
“Please note that whilst a lot of Education Authorities have ‘distance’
as their main criterion we do not have an equal spread of secondary
schools and the use of distance would mean that some children, living
furthest away from a secondary school, may not qualify for entry to any
school.” |

Consultation on Change Proposal Measuring Home to School Distances 2008 |
Most Relevant Text:
“To date parents are challenging the measurements to their nearest
schools and sending in evidence of made up footpaths which the system
does not always identify from the ordnance survey maps which form the
basis of Surrey’s Geographical Information System (GIS). We therefore
continue to update GIS as and when necessary and SMART online. Legal
Services are concerned about these challenges and have advised again
that a more objective way of measuring home to school distance that is
less open to challenge is to use radial (straight line) distance. Would
you support this change?” |

Surrey County
Council School Admission Policy Review 2009 |
Following high
profile problems with the admissions policy in 2007, the Executive
requested a review of the 2009 policy.
This paper
recommends a school admissions policy for 2009 as the basis for
consultation - it includes a policy for schools where the Schools
Adjudicator imposed a one-year variation for 2008. The objective is a
transparent and equitable policy, which is easily understood, compliant
with the 2007 Admissions Code and the Schools Adjudicator’s rulings.
