26th May Report from Review of 2007 Admissions Surrey CC has published the Report from the Review of the 2007 Admissions. It recommends to options to prevent a repeat of this year's problems for The Howard of Effingham, both of which would make a big difference for the Horsleys. The report is available here.
16th May 2008/9 Key Actions

The 2008/9 sub-group has been working hard on the strategy to influence the Admission Policies for future years. The key actions in support of this are:

  • 2008 - A formal objection is to be submitted to the Schools Adjudicator by the mid-June deadline.

  • 2009 - A presentation is to be made to Surrey's Admissions Forum on 11th June.

We are also expecting the results of Surrey CC's Review of the 2007 Admissions to be considered by the Executive Committee next week.

29th April Kick-Off meeting for Year 4 and 5 Parents A meeting is to be held tonight at East Horsley Village Hall to begin to address the issue of Admissions for 2008 and 2009. A sub-group to the main Action Group is being formed specifically to look at preventing problems in future years and this is a key opportunity to input to its organisation and direction. The meeting will start at 7:30 pm.
26th April Group Request for Waiting List places Following numerous cases of parents being given incorrect information about their Waiting List positions by Surrey CC's Contact Centre, a request has been sent to Andrew Crisp for this information to be provided in writing for all Horsley parents. If you are still on the Waiting List and have not yet signed the consent form for this please contact Karen Waterman.
19th April Waiting List size The are currently 87 people on the Waiting List for the Howard following the issue of 8 additonal offers to people on the list whose distances were corrected to be under the 3.867km cut-off.
17th April Latest Update on Rejected Howard Offers The number of initial Howard of Effingham offers that have been rejected has risen to 7 (as confirmed by Lyn Knight at Howard of Effingham).
16th April Meeting to Discuss Appeal Documents A meeting is being held at 7:30 p.m. at the Wheelhouse for all Year 6 parents who are intending to formally Appeal to review the group appeal case and legal input.
5th April Confirmation of Offers Rejected by Deadline Surrey CC has confirmed that only 5 places were rejected by the 15th March deadline set for confirming responses to offers of places at the Howard of Effingham for September 2007. It is likely that further places will be rejected and so this position will be monitored.
2nd April Year 6 Parents' Meeting A meeting is being held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Wheelhouse for all Year 6 parents who are intending to formally Appeal.
22nd March Surrey CC Confirms Distances to be Recalculated At the recent Surrey CC Local Committee meeting in Peaslake, it was confirmed by Surrey CC that they are recalculating distances due to the Horsley-Effingham cycleway. See full text of question and answer.
Monday's 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Open Prayer Group Wendy Smith has opened her house on Monday nights 8.30-9.30 for a prayer group to pray for the situation.  Anyone supporting the issue is welcome.Her address is 28 Nightingale Crescent and her telphone no. is285768.  Please call and let her know if you plan to come along so she knows how many to expect.

9th March Surrey CC Comments to Press Surrey Advertiser article which includes statements made by Surrey CC on this issue. These unhelpfully imply that local parents are partly to blame. See full Surrey Statement here.
7th March Surrey CC Suspends Admission Process We have received information that confirms that Surrey County Council has suspended the Admissions process for the Howard to allow time for a review of compliance with the Admission Criteria.
6th March Protest at County Hall A highly successful protest was organised today at Surrey County Hall where the Council were meeting to discuss School Admissions for 2008. The protesters were able to attend the meeting in the public Gallery and successfully raised the issues. There appeared to be a good degree of support for the case.
